Background

Dubai will celebrate Emirati Women’s Day on 27 August with a community walk and run event at Dubai Mall as part of the Dubai Mallathon campaign. The celebration will highlight 50 years of Emirati women’s achievements and encourage residents to stay active and healthy.

DSC is hosting the event under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Chairwoman of the General Women as the Mother of the Nation. The theme of this year, Hand in hand we celebrate 50 Years, is a golden jubilee of the General Women’s Union and also a tribute to the contribution of the Emirati women in the development of the nation.

The Dubai Mallathon is a wider campaign that turns shopping malls into fitness hubs by creating safe indoor spaces for walking and running. The initiative includes nine malls in total, among them Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, Dubai Festival City Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Mirdif, Festival Plaza, The Springs Souk, and Dubai Mall.

The program runs daily from 7 am to 10 am and is open to women of all nationalities. It also welcomes young people, senior citizens, children, and mall employees. Organizers have added fitness tracking systems, health awareness points, guided stretching sessions, and play areas for children to make the activities more engaging and inclusive.

Officials added that the walk-run will not only honour women but also introduce fitness and wellbeing among the community. By organizing the Mallathon, Dubai is making people use the common spaces in their everyday lives to make them healthier, and is also displaying its concern in making a difference in the lives of women by empowering them.

The show will be a reminder of growth and cohesion as the nation looks back at what Emirati women have done in the last 50 years. It demonstrates the UAE’s vision of enabling women to become equal development partners in the country and how the public initiatives may blend cultures, health, and inclusion within a single territory.
