Background-
The Global South Media and Think Tank Forum Chinese–Arab Partnership Conference was held in Cairo in May, bringing together representatives from media, think tanks, government bodies and businesses from China and Arab countries to boost cooperation and dialogue.
Sinopec Group director Zhong Ren participated in the conference and gave a keynote address titled “Building a Foundation with Energy, Driving New Growth with Innovation, and Connecting Through Culture.” He highlighted Sinopec’s role in China–Arab cooperation and said the company is committed to strengthening partnerships with Arab nations.
The forum underlined the long history of China–Arab relations and focused on energy security, innovation, and cultural exchange. Zhong Ren stressed that energy security and development should progress together.
He also pointed to Sinopec’s involvement in major projects such as the Yanbu Refinery in Saudi Arabia and the Al-Zour Refinery in Kuwait.
He also spoke about the company’s work in oil and gas trade, along with its efforts to expand clean energy projects and advance digital systems and global communication networks.
Sinopec further promoted cultural cooperation through initiatives such as Silk Road Book Houses in several Arab countries, as well as training programs for local professionals and technical staff.
The conference awarded Sinopec the Global South Media and Think Tank Cooperation & Communication Partnership Outstanding Contribution Award for its role in strengthening cooperation and building trust among partners.
The two-day event, co-organized by Xinhua and the League of Arab States, gathered around 250 participants from media, think tanks, government bodies, and businesses across the Global South, reflecting increasing cooperation among developing regions.
Organizers said the initiative aims to further deepen strategic ties and expand opportunities in energy, technology, and cultural exchange across the region in the coming years.
