Background
Amazon opened its first fulfilment centre in Abu Dhabi and has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) to consolidate the e-commerce and logistics ecosystem in the emirate. The centre will be situated in Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) and intends to assist local businesses as well as to promote the objectives of the digital economy of Abu Dhabi.
The facility has a capacity of 8 million items that can be stored in more than 30 categories, such as groceries, home, beauty, and electronics. Almost half of the space is dedicated to small and medium enterprises using Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), enabling them to reach more customers efficiently.
The new centre improves delivery speeds by offering same-day shipping on a wider range of products across the UAE. It also has an Innovation Lab that is equipped with 3D printing setups, ergonomic equipment, and high-tech package testing, to reduce lead times by 59% on over 500 tests.
One of the priorities is sustainability, and analytics-oriented processes can be used to minimize the consumption of resources. ADIO’s Badr Al-Olama said the centre would create new opportunities for SMEs and support priority sectors like retail, wholesale trade, and ICT.
Abu Dhabi Customs highlighted its digital platforms, AI services, and streamlined clearance processes that ensure smooth operations. Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President of Amazon Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, said the centre “sets new standards for online retail” and underlines Amazon’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s digital economy.
The launch expands Amazon’s footprint in the UAE, supporting local businesses and positioning Abu Dhabi as a hub for smart trade, innovation, and e-commerce growth in the region.
