Background

The Memorandum of Understanding between Syria’s Ministry of Tourism and Saudi companies Tamkeen, Cipher and Hawaz is geared towards facilitating the digital transformation of the tourism sector in the country. It seeks to ensure improvements in terms of visitor experience, institutional performance, and positioning of Syria in the tourism market of the region and worldwide.

The MoU entails developing a unified platform for tourism service and booking management and also building a national portal for tourism with relevant information about destinations and events in the country.

The project will also introduce cybersecurity measures, data governance systems and advanced data collection and analytics tools to support tourism planning and policy decisions. The ministry said these initiatives will help build a more efficient and technology-driven tourism sector.

Senior ministry officials, members of the Syrian-Saudi Business Council, representatives of the three Saudi enterprises, and Tourism Minister Mazen Al-Salhani were present when the deal was signed in Damascus.

The Saudi companies will contribute expertise in digital transformation, cybersecurity, government technology and institutional modernisation. Their experience in delivering projects linked to Saudi Vision 2030 is expected to help Syria adopt international standards in digital governance and public service delivery.

The partnership also includes destination marketing campaigns aimed at attracting regional and international visitors, as well as training programmes to equip tourism professionals with digital skills.

This project is one of the elements of the strategy pursued by the ministry aimed at modernization of public services, building up digital infrastructure, and the development of e-governance tools. The implementation of information technology into tourism services will contribute to improving visitors’ experience and increasing investment in Syria’s tourism sector.
