Background

Qatar announced a new partnership with PwC Middle East and OpenAI to speed up the country’s adoption of artificial intelligence and strengthen its national AI ecosystem. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) signed the agreement to help government agencies, businesses, and startups use AI more effectively.

The collaboration will target three main areas. First, they will create a national AI testbed to help government agencies and startups try out and build new AI solutions. Second, the partnership will work on improving productivity in public-sector institutions using advanced tools, including ChatGPT. Third, the three organisations will design new AI-driven projects for key national sectors.

Eman Al Kuwari, Director of Digital Innovation at MCIT, said the agreement is an important step in building a reliable and world-class AI framework. She said the partnership will help Qatar improve public services, support digital innovation and grow its knowledge-based economy. She also highlighted the importance of training national talent to use AI safely and effectively.

PwC Middle East partner Yazan Al Safi said the deal shows PwC’s commitment to helping Qatar expand its AI efforts. He explained that combining policy leadership, expert advice, and advanced technology will help Qatar move from small-scale experiments to large, real-world results.

OpenAI’s Farouk Hamzawi said the cooperation will support Qatar’s national priorities by offering advanced AI tools that can boost productivity and responsibly drive innovation.

Under this agreement, MCIT will set up the right environment for AI, PwC will advise institutions on AI opportunities, and OpenAI will provide technical support and access to its latest AI models. The partnership will help Qatar boost its digital skills and reach its long-term technology goals.
