Background
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has developed a new digital service named Tadreeb, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to make the process of training and licensing new drivers faster and easier. The system connects all the approved driving schools into one network, digitalizes the assessment, automates records, and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance training standards.
According to Ahmed Mahboob, Chief Executive of RTA’s Licensing Agency, the initiative will help improve safety, ensure transparent evaluations, and reduce accident risks among new licence holders. The platform also makes the entire training and licensing process faster and more efficient by eliminating paperwork and introducing real-time monitoring.
Tadreeb has more than 3000 driving instructors, 3,000 training vehicles, and 27 driving institutes. Each vehicle is GPS-enabled, allowing electronic monitoring of routes and training sessions. The platform delivers more than six million hours of training to more than 250,000 trainees each year. The system also ensures strong governance, with a 97 percent compliance rate among trainers.
Main features of Tadreeb are AI and data-driven analysis. The platform detects the needs of the people and provides customised learning by examining the performance and behaviour of the trainees. Intelligent dashboards are used to give a real-time check on the progress of training, performance of instructors, and general operations of the operation to ensure that RTA ensures tight control.
The digital transformation has already shown measurable outcomes. Permit issuance times have been cut by half, operational costs have been reduced, and evaluation procedures have become more transparent. Remote monitoring is carried out through the Smart Licensing Centre, adding another layer of accountability.
Internationally, the platform has also gained recognition. Tadreeb became the first single driver training system ever to be formally recognised by the International Commission of Driver Testing (CIECA). In 2025, it was awarded the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its contribution to safer and more efficient driver training.
RTA is looking forward to adding additional AI-enhanced functionality to the platform later, such as customised learning paths and even more automation in compliance checks. The officials believe that these steps will make Dubai a sustainable city, a smart mobility city, and will help ensure better safety outcomes among new drivers.
